On to the Flyer

Tuesday, February 24th, 2004

Today I finished off the logo design and tackled the Ignite flyer. Take a look-see and tell me what you think. The front is obviously very red and has the logo as the centerpiece. It needed some contrast to stand out and I tried playing around with different colors or highlights for the flame, but nothing looked too good, so I used the title as the focal point instead of the logo. I will be taking pictures for and working on the back tomorrow, time allowing.

I also found an awesome verse to tie into the whole weekend:
His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot. – Jeremiah 20:9

Logo Design

Monday, February 23rd, 2004

My church is launching a huge youth event in April and I have been signed on to create all the print and web designs needed. The first task is to develop a logo, and since it will be used for all mediums, I am creating it in vector format in Adobe Illustrator. Only catch: I’ve never used Illustrator before, only Photoshop. Enter headaches, stage right.

You can view my progress from this page. Feel free to leave any feedback in the form of a comment.

Launch; We Out!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2004

It has been an amazing weekend! God is good, I gotta tell ya. I haven’t written for five days, but with reason: I was at Launch, a weekend event put on by Houston Northwest church. Mucho fun times were had by all.

Friday I arrived at the church around 6:30, welcomed by giant inflatable moonwalks and obstacle courses, and food and friends. I met up with my host-home group and got to know everybody. The night was kicked off with some great praise and worship, videos, a bit of a lesson, and lots of crazyness. Oh, and Brave Saint Saturn has an incredible song called “Daylight” that you gotta check out. Later that night, my group headed to our weekend house and played games, studied the word, had some great prayer time, and got our funk on.

Saturday was filled with more Bible study and basketball in the morning, then we went galaxy bowling from 2 – 4:30pm. I bowled about middle of the pack, but had a blast doing it. I also perfected the doubl-bowl, with criss-crossing bowling action. My last shot of the day was awesome, though: gripped the ball on the outside and sent it spinning down to one corner, then it grabbed and flew back to the center for a perfect strike! ‘Twas exciting. Afterwards, we had had dinner and headed back up to the church center for more skits, videos, Bible, entertainment, and some more wonderful worship time where I got to lay it all down before Christ.

The Sunday morning service was just about more of the same, but I had to say good-bye to my new friends (until next week, tho – ha!). God spoke to me personally and I will tell more of that later. Right now, I must get some sleep, as I have had a total of seven hours for the past three days!

Watch your backs and keep your noses clean.

24 Hour Fitness (We Mean It)

Tuesday, February 17th, 2004

You gotta love it. I’ve had my 24 Hour Fitness membership less than a month, but I’ve already used it to its full potential. I’ve got at 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 6pm, 10pm, and even 2:30am! (And of course all times in between.) When they tell me it’s open 24 hours, I’m going to hold ‘em to it! Get those endorphins pumpin’.

Switching gears, I visited to Houston Northwest church on Sunday, and attended their 249 youth service. I really enjoyed it, and I discovered later that a few of my friends go there, although I didn’t happen to see them. The great thing is, I filled out a visitor card, and already recieved two welcoming phone calls, and this afternoon there was “mysteriously” a yard sign from the church planted in front of my house, complete with signatures and notes from the students. I felt pretty special. Needless to say, I will be attending their Bible study tomorrow night.

Wiqukk-iet!

Just Plain Busy

Monday, February 16th, 2004

Wow, my life has been pretty full lately. I’ve had job interviews and design work to be done, I’ve been debating between colleges, moving to Austin, or the military, and I’ve had to deal with some personal issues regarding my church, all on top of the normal grind of life. I was looking at going to Austin this past weekend as a sort of retreat, but that got cancelled due to weather. Just please pray that God will give me definite direction in regards to my future, namely my education choice for next year. Thanks.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
- Proverbs 3:5-6
