I Shot Bambi

After several hours of studying, and during a sugar-high energy rush, I decided to go hunting with my pledge brother Blake and a couple of my other brothers. It was around 3am on Thursday morning, so we quickly grabbed some gear and headed up to Blake’s ranch, about an hour and a half north of campus. I had never been hunting before, so I was pretty dang excited.

After a stop by the house and a food break, we arrived at the ranch around 5am. We put on our warm clothes, got the guns ready, and then posted up in our respective blinds. Blake and I were way up in a tree about 100 yards from a feeder when we heard two bucks fighting. We scanned the area and around us and spotted them in the distance. After passing up several smaller bucks and a few does, I spotted one of the previous fighting bucks walking out into a clear. I lined him up, aimed, and fired – a direct hit, straight through both shoulders (and the lungs and heart). Needless to say, he dropped.

Ah, twas a great trip. I’ll have some pictures up once I get ‘em off my friend’s camera. After the excursion, we drove back and I took my English final (I had written it out the night before) and then went straight to sleep…
