Skynyrd, Insomia

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

‘Twas a good day. I met up with some highschool friends, went to dinner, and then attended the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert at the Houston rodeo. The Dickey family called me up and invited me to join them for the concert, and I couldn’t decline the offer.

We sat on the club level, which contains several bars, air-conditioning, leather couches, and an higher quality level than the rest of the stadium. My favorite part of the night was when lead-vocalist Johnny Van Zant unfurled a Confederate battle flag and shouted, “The South will rise again!” The band proceeded to launch into “Sweet Home Alabama” and the crowed as on its feet! A great time was had by all.

And now here I am, suffering from insomnia at 5am.

Firefox Web Browser

Friday, March 18th, 2005

Firefox is the best web browser available today – period. If you’re still using the asinine Internet Explorer, I emplore you to consider a switch. Firefox contains a host of features, including tabbed browsing, an excellent pop-up blocker, spyware protection, user modification possibilities, and more. For more information, visit the official web site.

If you’ve downloaded Firefox and love what you see, but haven’t extended it or modified it in any way, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!” (to quote Al Jolson). Some of the more fun things you can do with Firefox are to extend it, customize it, and tweak it. Meryl Evans walks you through a few steps so you can be more comfortable taking Firefox beyond its basic setup.

I currently use Firefox with several extensions installed, a custom theme, and in conjuction with Thunderbird and various RSS feeds. I love it.

Stuck in Houston

Thursday, March 17th, 2005

My plans for South Padre fell through. I suspected all along this would happen, but kept denying the inevitable. I planned on working all spring break, and only changed my plans at the last minute, but this proved to be my fatal mistake. There’s always next year, right?

Welcome to Sunny Galveston Island

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

The term “warm” defintiely does not describe the past couple of days. I spent them in Galveston with a bunch of my friends (and their friends, etc). I enjoyed myself thoroughly, despite the weather being overcast and the temperature not rising above 50 degrees the whole time.

My friend Elizabeth owns a condo along the sea wall and she invited several people up to her place. We moved between the condo, another person’s beach house, and the surrounding area. Last night we made a run down to the beach (which is across he street), but quickly decided that it was way too cold and ran back inside. The few days contained alot of excitement, including getting kicked out of our condo, a confrontation with security, driving a Camaro into a ditch, and the general chaos that comes with a colleg spring break.

The plan is to drive to South Padre tomorrow! We’ll see if that actually happens; my spur-of-the-moment plans have a tendancy to change.

Speed Racer

andrew-race
I drove to Houston yesterday and today I took Andrew to Mountasia. Comprised of various attractions, Mountasia is a fun-land for kids. Andrew blasted away with the water guns attached to the bumper-boats, soaking a middle-aged dad and his three kids in the process. The go-karts proved to be a piece of cake for Andrew; he won first place and managed to make some poor kid spin out!

I’m playing it by ear this week, but I will most likely be going to Galveston tomorrow or the next morning, and then (hopefully) heading to South Padre. Hey, if it doesn’t work out, there’s always next year!
