Say ‘Good Bye,’ Mr. Appendix
Saturday, June 18th, 2005I’ve been researching where to live, acting camps and schools, etc etc about LA, but I had a set-back this week. I got home Wednesday night around 12:30, and I began experiencing burning and cramping pains in my stomach and abdominal region. I tried to put up with the pain, thinking that it would go away, but 6 hours later I was pretty much immobilized by the pain and I had thrown up at least 14 times, so I figured a trip to the hospital was in order, if at least to keep from being dehydrated.
Well, turns out that I had appendicitis! After taking blood tests and running two CAT scans, the doctors shot me up with a ton of drugs and began prep for surgery. The operation took place around 6pm on Thursday; a complete success. No complications and it took only 45 minutes. I’m doing as best as can be expected, but the worst part is that I’m not “supposed” to drive for 10 days and I can’t go back to the gym for over a month! And I just got a new job THIS WEEK that pays $12/hr, but my primary duties are driving a truck and lifting stuff, so I have to drop that for awhile.
But anyways, I’m doing alright. My mom offered her apartment to me, and she’s doing the loving motherly thing and taking care of me (thanks, mom!), so I’ll be fine. The funniest thing happened though: my boss from Bear Advertising and the staff all sent me a big basket of flowers. They are purple and beautiful, but they have a “Rest in Peace” ribbon draped across them. The delivery girl was mortified and so embarrassed at having to deliver them to a hospital–thinking that they were actually for a dead person–but it proved hilarious when I got them and realized the joke. I’ll never forget the look on that poor girls face! And the staff thought it was hilarious as well.
Take care, all!
