Dinner, Halloween

Monday, October 31st, 2005

I’m behind on updates, as usual.

New stuff… went to a political dinner on campus at the University of Texas for the Texas Civil Rights Project on the 23rd. One of my professors, Bob Mann, has had quite a career, spending time as an editor for several newspapers, including the Washington Post and the LA Times, assistant to Ted Kennedy, as well as various other distinguished positions. Needless to say, he’s well connected. Anyways, Mr. Mann had his friend (the previous president of CNN) donate tickets to the event so that students from the UT and TX State campuses could attend (each tables is a minimum of $5000). I managed to get into the “VIP Lounge” before hand, and I personally met and talked with the mayor of Austin’s aid, Tennessee Senator Harold Ford, former senator and ambassador Bob Krueger (I have actually met with him on three occasions now), Texas House of Representativses member Rich Raymond, Senator Bob Burns, and film director Terry George (he wrote and directed Hotel Rwanda). I had quite a night!

We (Kappa Sigma) threw a gigantic Halloweeen party last night. About 600-700 people, Miller sponsored it, and we rented out an entire ghost town for the event! It was wild… Girls everywhere, huge dance floor, inside/outside, all the good stuff. Started around 9pm and went till 3am. Definitely still exhausted, so I’m about to hit the sack.

Anyways, got booted out of my art class for too many absenses. Sucks, because I need the class, so I’m taking the exact same one next semester. At least I’ll have half the work done, right? Take it easy, ya’ll…

Bob Krueger, Camping

Friday, October 21st, 2005

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Krueger last night! You probably don’t know of him, but he happens to be a personal hero of mine. In brief, he has been a senator and state representative from Texas, a successful business man, but most notable he has served as ambassador to Mexico, Burundi, and Botswana. While serving in Burundi, Krueger played a roll in fighting a social genocide, much like the one that occurred in Rwanda.

Anyways, I was hanging out at the student center on campus, and he walked past the group of friends I was with. I immediately recognized him and a friend and I decided to follow him. Mr. Krueger was attending a political dinner hosted at the university for the Texas Legislature. Tickets were $250, so I conjured a story about my working for the university newspaper, etc etc, and I got in! I found Krueger and very politely introduced the young lady I was with and myself. Mr. Krueger turned out to be quite a gentleman, very charismatic, and he talked with us for about 20 minutes, and even introduced us to a current candidate for the Texas Senate. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly.

And now I’m running out the door, because I’m going camping this weekend for the annual brotherhood retreat with my fraternity! See you all after the weekend.

Insomnia, As Usual

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

The clock ticks passed 3:30am and I still find no rest. Insomnia greets me with its wiley grin, and I prepare for the night ahead. If I happened upon Rest, I doubt I would recognize her.

I’m printing out Fite Nite sponsor packets at one of the 24hr computer labs… Fite Nite is the only thing I seem to be able to focus on lately. My design projects are struggling, and school has definitely taken a back seat to everything else. My nights are sleepless, and my days are filled with day-dreams of sleep. Stress, disorder, emotion (depression?) have set it. Yet, I overcome.

Peace till the morning, I await. Take care, world.

Distressed Lullaby

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

Sleep, baby, sleep
For the world does weep
Yet hope hides amoung the dawn
And your pains shall be foregone
Sleep, baby, sleep
Sleep, baby, sleep

Ever dream? I do.

Sliding Through the Wedding

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

Wow, incredibly busy as usual. It’s 9am and I’ve been up all night working on poster design for the theatre department here at school and also on my art project due at 11am (made it with two hours to spare!). My art project looks awesome, but I’m definitely tired.

Let’s see… On October 1st we had Sig-n-Slide out at the Kappa Sigma house. In short, it was incredible! Just imagine: a 100-ft long, 20-ft wide slip-n-slide down the side of a hill into a pond. Everyone who went had a blast, and we even went back that night around 2am for some night sliding.

Oh, and this past weekend my father got married to his third wife, Patsy. The ceremony was small and simple. I’m quite indifferent to the whole thing, but thought it worth mentioning. Anyways, take care till next time!

Where am I now?
