The Wonder Beyond?

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Yesterday was Ashton’s funeral… Beautifully crippling.

Ashton was the most beautiful person I’ve ever known. So caring, loving, giving… She always let you know that she loved you, always brightened your day. We used to go someplace, and then decide just to drive and talk… Wonderful memories. Such beauty and grace; a true lady. And what a heart! I am at a loss for words… I have lost the most amazing person in my life. Everyone who knew her knew she was incredible special. Her personality, always a leader, and always compassionate… Ashton, you will always be in my heart, I will always talk to you, we will always spend time together!

And if you were with me tonight
I’d sing to you just one more time
A song for a heart so big
God wouldn’t let it live

May angels lead you in
May angels lead you in

Heaven… the glorious sadness that brings me to my knees.

R.I.P. Ashton Mallory McDuff

One of my dear, good friends was in a car wreck this weekend… She passed away. I found out earlier today.

I have no words… WHY?! No matter how many times we encounter death, we are ill-prepared to deal with its unhesitating blow… She was one of the few people on this earth that truly cared for me.

May you rest in peace, my sweet Ashton… you are amazing, I will always remember, always love you.

It’s good to know that you have friends to lift you up when you need it.

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Jarhead: Welcome to the Suck

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

I just got out of watching director San Mendes’ rendition of the book by Anthony Swofford, Jarhead. The movie recounts the story of one young recruit, from enlistment straight out of highschool to several years after his term of duty. In a word, the true story is sobering. Jake Gyllenhaal presents a solid and movie performance, and Mendes does well to minimize the intrusion of politics into the screenplay, while still giving mention to the issues of the day. This is one film well worth your $7.
