Bronze Purging

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

Well… The walls turned out a brighter orange than I had desired, but they are acceptable. The ceiling, however, looks like someone ate a bunch of pennies and then threw them up and used the substance as paint. In a word: horrendous. I will be re-painting the ceiling again after Christmas…

And speaking of which, I am in Houston for the holiday. I helped my sister, Michelle, and her husband, Paul, move the first load of belongings into their new home today. They just moved back from Scotland! I’m very excited about having them back state-side. I’m going to be spending Christmas morning over at Paul’s mother’s house with his side of the family; it should be a lovely time.

Have a happy over-commercialized-and-increasingly-non-religious-holiday!

Moving, Painting, & Shaking

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

I moved out of the dorms and into the fraternity house! It took me four hours to clean the room that I’ll be living in, but it now rocks. The room is huge: about 16′ by 12′, two closets, and lost of windows. I’m currently in the process of painting it, and I fear that I have made a poor color choice! Oh well, we will have to wait and see…

I went to the Trail of Lights last night with my friend Lauren. The 300,000+ lights were great, but the best part was the funnel cake! I haven’t had funnel cake in almost 7 years… it was good.

Well, back to painting!

Christmas Break

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

Yes, I took my last final today: chemistry, and I aced it! School is over for the semester! It’s a good thing, too, because as of right now most of the campus is covered in a layer of ice; the high for today was a whopping 36 degrees. What the hell, right?

Touch Me, I’m Famous

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

Well, not exactly… but I did act in a movie yesterday! I was selected to be an extra for the latest Richard Linklater film, Fast Food Nation! I acted in two scenes with movie-stars Ethan Hawke and Ashley Johnson as well as Avril Lavigne. It was awesome!

My “big part” is simply walking in to a bar in the background, ordering some drinks with two friends, and then sitting down. I do walk about two feet away from Ethan Hawke’s table, so you’ll for sure be able to see my body, but I don’t know if the shot with my face in it will be included or not. Either way, I had such a great time being on the set with such talented people as Hawke and director Linklater. Being apart of a major production like this was a unique experience and I enjoyed seeing everyone work to put together the scenes.

I didn’t get to meet any of the famous stars, but we did exchange some knowing glances. Oh, and Avril Lavigne is gorgeous in person! I’ve got a bunch of stories about the day, but I’ll spare you the details of how Ethan and I laughed with me and how I ‘bumped’ into Avril… But anyways, look for me in theatres next year!

War and Coffee

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

Tonight I saw the movie Lord of War at the dollar theatre with my roommate, Brendan. I give it a C+; an interesting idea, but the factual basis for the movie was lacking. I don’t feel like explaining myself further, so I’ll leave you at that.

Afterwards, we walked over to the Coffee Pot, San Marcos’ best coffee shop. On this particular visit, we acquired a few cups of their delicious hot chocolate, since the temperature had dropped below freezing. An interesting conversation followed, delving into topics such as life, summer plans, and academia in general. And of course, women. Our thoughts were pleasantly interrupted by passing friends and new acquaintances.

A nice evening… and tomorrow I film. What? You don’t know about that? Well, I’ll just have to tell you after it happens.
