Friday Night Lights

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

For a brief moment on a hot August night, I helped lead my team to win the highschool football state championship… Scratch that, it was 40 degrees in Frebruray, my team was comprised of ex-college and NFL players, and all I did was run up and down the sideline and look sweaty.

Last night, my friends James, Austin, and Jimmy all went up to Austin to film the pilot for the new Friday Night Lights TV series, based off the movie of the same name (and originally off the book). The executive producer and director is Peter Berg, back again after his success with the movie. Anyways, through the cold and rain, I managed to have a good time and get some good camera shots. My starring moment is when the team scores the winning touch down and I race down the side-line and jump over one of my teammates. Ah, the sweet taste of victory!

An extra role, to be sure, but fun nonetheless. Take notes for future Will Roman trivia games ;-) .

I got a dog!

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

Yes, for the first time since I was six, I am the proud owner of a dog! His name is Cain and he’s a huge pitbull. I saved him from the pound and he has taken nicely to life here at the fraternity house so far. I definitely invite everyone to come on over and see him. And for one more pic, even the beast needs to sleep; 75lbs of pure muscle!

Esoteric Deceptions

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Why is it that I often find myself internally divided regarding those closest to me? Or rather, not often, but the few times that I’ve actually been intrigued by a member of the fairer sex, there are certain irreconcilable differences that threaten my sanity? An emotion subtly maneuvers its way into the relationship, and I’m torn between the logical and the esoteric thoughts that even I cannot decipher. I honestly do not know what will come next…

In other news, I played soccer for the first time tonight in years… The Kappa Sigma intramural team is undefeated! (1-0) And I must say, I played well, but I indeed learned the painful lesson of not wearing shin guards… and for that matter, not wearing a cup!

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Weekend Endeavors

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

I thoroughly enjoyed this past weekend. Friday night, I saw a Renegade cage match in Austin with a bunch of the guys from highschool. If you don’t know what they are, cage matches have two fighters pitted against each other in an octagon ring, 8′ in diameter, with a steel cage surrounding the entire thing. Fighters are allowed to punch, kick, and simply beat the hell out of their opponents. The only limitations are 4oz knuckle gloves and no bighting. It goes without saying that the bouts prove to be very bloody. It was awesome!

On Saturday I had planned an evening out with my friend Lauren for Valentine’s day. She came over around 8:30pm, dressed to kill. We dined at P. F. Chang’s China Bistro in Austin. The food was excellent, and the conversation even better. Afterwards we drove over to Mt. Bonnell, a known romantic outlook over all of Austin. My date was charming and the evening exquisite…

Then today we all went out and bought kites! Throwing back to our elementary years, we flew kites out at the fraternity house. I kept adding string up to 1,250 feet; I think that should be some kind of local record. Anyways, I blew off the whole day flying kites, skateboarding, and playing football.

Of course, pictures via the link on the right.
