Fite Nite is almost upon us, and I can’t wait until it’s finally over. It has been a long five months preparing for this, and with the event less than two weeks away it’s like waiting for a child to be born! This Thursday is the pre-party slash weigh-in party to hype up the buzz, so hopefully that will go well. I’m just two weeks away from finally getting a good night’s rest!

I’m also managing to keep up with my classes, barely, even though I dropped down to taking just nine hours. Work is still coming in, and I’ve thankfully been able to complete enough to keep paying the bills. Relationships, however, are ever complicated in my life; the main thing that I have no control over and continually discover that I know very little about.

I can finally see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel!

P.S. My friend Stephen showed me how to edit one of the photographs I took during spring break, and I’m really proud of it… take a look.

opposites attract

Thursday and Friday were complete opposite days from one another. After being up for three days working on Fite Nite and school projects, I finally went to bed around 6am on Thursday. I had started feeling ill a couple of hours beforehand, but nothing too serious. When I awoke around 1pm, however, things were completely different… And the day was not comfortable to say the least. Turns out I had a 24hr virus or something of the like.

Friday dawned and I felt great, however. The night before was filled with tossing and turning, trying to fight to sleep, but the morning brought quick recovery. The weather cleared up and was beautiful as well, but the best part was that night I went out to dinner and a comedy show with my good friend Adrienne. We ate at Houston’s, saw my sister and friends who work there, then headed over to the Capital City comedy club to see Matt Sadler. I managed to reserve the absolute front-and-center table–best seat in the house by far–and the show was hilarious. Good food, great show, and wonderful company… What more could I ask for?

And today I blew off all my responsibilities and road around in the go-kart and chilled all day… Is summer here yet?

bad dream

Wow… I actually managed to fall asleep before midnight, and now I slowly pull myself out of one of the most terrifying dreams I’ve ever had.

Resisting reality

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Yes, back to the daily grind… School, Fite Nite, work, fraternity. I can’t wait for this semester to be over!

Two things have happened twice in the last two nights (see a pattern?), one of which is unusual, but the other not; I haven’t been to bed before 4am and I’ve had phone conversations that lasted longer than five minutes. Two to three hours, in fact. (Amazing, I know.) The subject(s) of conversation? Ahh, that is the question, isn’t it now.

Three new poems, none of which you will read. And the quote of the day:

Maybe I’m really not the solid rock that I’ve always been. Maybe, just maybe, I’m f***ed up too, just like you.

Good day.

Spring Break in Destin!

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

Once again I have gone without updating anything, but not without reason–I’ve been in Destin, FL on spring break! My close friend Adrienne graciously invited me along with her sister, sister’s boyfriend, and mom and dad to spend the week with them. We stayed at the exquisite Sandestin resort that encompasses both the beach and bay sides; in short, it was a step into paradise.

The easiest way to explain all that I did is simply to show you the photos that I just uploaded in the pictures section. Out of over 300 photos that I took, I’ve uploaded sixty-eight pics for your viewing pleasure.

I met up with Adrienne and her family in Houston a week ago on Saturday, and we drove to Baton Rouge and checked into a hotel for the night. We got up early in order to stop by New Orleans before heading on to Florida. We ate in the French Quarter, and that area seemed to be thriving again, although not nearly as crowded as usual, but while leaving the city, we saw the wake of Katrina’s damage. And as we moved on to Biloxi and into Miss. the destruction worsened. You’ll have to look at my pictures to see evidence of the storm.

The rest of the day consisted of visiting a few sites along the way, and then finally arriving at our condo around nightfall. The place was great: three bedrooms, full kitchen, dining room, and living room, back patio enclosed with a screen, right on the golf course, and a few minutes walk from the beach. And if you decided the walk was too far (less than a mile), you could just call a tram to come pick you up from your condo and take you there.

All the days just blur together… Morning breakfast (a rare treat in college) and bikes rides, lunch and afternoons on the beach, dinner and nights out on the town or the resort village. Everything flew by as if in a dream. A week of virtually no responsibilities, spending it with someone I care about and who’s company I enjoy, in an exotic location; is it over already?

Needless to say, this spring break was one of my favorite vacations ever, and I am extremely thankful for being given the opportunity to embark upon it. (On a side note, the equivocal nature of the feminine plucked upon my being, rendering my quintessence thoroughly flustered yet again; it seems destined to be my permanent state of conscience.) Anyways, the trip was amazing and I loathe the thought of awaking tomorrow to the many responsibilities that await.
