I use Google Apps extensibly to manage my multiple business and personal identities online. The system works well for most of my purposes, however I struggled to have secondary calendars sync from Google Apps to my iPhone 4S. Google’s own support pages provided no help and I had almost given up completely when a friend pointed me towards iPhone Calendar Sync.

Go to http://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect

Select which calendars you’d like to sync to your device

Enjoy all your secondary calendars on your iPhone!

Such a simple solution; I don’t know why Google doesn’t make it more obvious. Hope this helps someone else facing this issue. While we are on the subject of iPhone calendars, I recommend the Calvetica app pictured above as an elegant replacement to the default Apple calendar application.

I recently visited Israel and experienced quite an adventure. Levi’s caught wind of my excursions and posted a brief piece written by me. Check out the excerpt below:

In February, I went on an amazing Birthright trip to Israel. Birthright is a Jewish charity that sponsors ten-day heritage trips to Israel for those of Jewish descent. I joined a group of 40 other young adults for the adventure of a lifetime.

Before leaving on my journey, I bought a new pair of Levi’s® 505® jeans for the excursion and wore them on the plane along with a cowboy hat and boots (I am Texan, after all). Upon landing, I discovered that the airline had lost my luggage. Not to worry, they assured me, my bag should arrive within a few hours.

I ended up not receiving my bag till the ninth night of my ten-day trip. Believe it or not, the airline had accidently sent my bag to Hong Kong in the process.

To make matters more interesting, the first three days of the tour were spent in the Negev Desert. Far from any department stores or even markets where I could purchase new clothes, we hiked all day, rode camels, climbed through caves and camped with the nomadic Bedouin population.

All of this activity was done in my single pair of Levi’s® — and they held up wonderfully. Not only did I remain comfortable, but the jeans stood up to the constant abuse and somehow stayed relatively clean.

I’ve certainly learned that I don’t need much to visit a foreign country. Give me a pair of Levi’s®, a few clean shirts and socks, and I’m set to travel the world.

Underlying all the principles of effectual reasoning is a coherent logic that rests on a fundamentally different assumption about the future than causal reasoning. Causal reasoning is based on the logic, To the extent that we can predict the future, we can control it. That is why both academics and practitioners in business today spend enormous amounts of brainpower and resources on developing predictive models. Effectual reasoning, however, is based on the logic, To the extent that we can control the future, we do not need to predict it.

I’ve always believed that positive occurrences are largely a result of the ability to create, notice and act upon the chance opportunity’s in life. Most things that people attribute to “luck” are a result of friendships, positivity and decisive action. Richard Wiseman wrote about what traits he observed supposedly-lucky people possessing:

being open to opportunities or insights that come along spontaneously

mingle with a broad variety of people and enjoy meeting new people

make decisions based upon instincts

expect encounters with others to result in something good and often manifest this

do not dwell on misfortune and find the positive in all situations

continue to pursue goals despite early discouragements

Always be cognizant of opportunity, no matter the source, and be ready to change course appropriately. Many times my life has taken new and adventurous turns, because I was able to quickly realize the value of a new proposition and then act upon it. Keep moving forward.
